With the "stay at home" orders out in various companies, people are utilizing their on-line Gaming accounts a great deal more. With this increase comes the possibility of an increase in Cyber Crimes or hacking activities. The latest breech report is Nintendo losing 160,000 accounts and recognizing that they have been hacked.
There was an increase in suspicious activities in gamer accounts, with people taking to Reddit and Twitter to post complaints. The complaints surrounded what seemed to be abusive payment cards connected to buying digital goods on Nintendo's online stores.
Released Friday 4/24/2020, Nintendo noted that attackers have been abusing their NNID (Nintendo Network ID) legacy login system since the beginning of April 2020.
Nintendo posted a response on Twitter:
"In response to recent incidents related to some Nintendo Accounts, it is no longer possible to sign into a Nintendo Account using a Nintendo Network ID. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please visit our Support website for more information: https://bit.ly/2VTEVu5"
If you have an older Nintendo device (Wii or other) but moreso a Nintendo 3DS or a Wii U Console, you may want to change your password ASAP.
