Is old school back ?  In a recent article (click here for article)  it is mentioned that some are ditching the idea of attacking the Malware and Viruses or threat and going to making it more difficult for attackers in the first place.

Isn't this old school ?  Anyone hear about Honeypots or Tarpits ?  the idea was to have a server or group of servers that looked real and would entrap the attacker to gather information on them to reverse attacks or forensics while the attack was on.

To me this is new breath of life into old school techniques.  make it more difficult for an attacker to gain that foothold or have countermeasures in place to deal with them in real time.  An automated defense system?  Why not?  We have oodels and shoe boxes full of information gathered over the years.  Why not revisit some of the old school techniques and revamp them ?

Make it harder to hide, harder to gain foot holds, harder to get away with it as it was so easy to do in the old days.

I say, well done, lets revisit some of the old tried and true techniques to update them!  Wow,  this feels sorta James Bond ish in some ways ?  Hell, we are recycling cans and plastics, why not old ideas ?
