BSIDES Las Vegas 2016

This year, with a work colleague, we attended BSIDES Las Vegas. This is like a mini convention for 2 days with some private talks, displays, learning village and some other really nifty things.
This year, the BSIDES is hosted at the Tuscany Suites on East Flamingo. While this is a distance from Black Hat itself, it is well worth the trip in my opinion.
I was actually quite taken back by the quality of this event. Well organized, with Security Goons all directing traffic and directions, it is very well done.
I have had the opportunity to sit in on a few discussions and look forward to more this afternoon.
Talks range from various venues (Training Ground, Common Ground, Breaking Ground, Ground Truth and others) with talks on 30 Years of CFAA, Total Better Password Requirements,Breaking POI, and a slew of others.
I must admit again, this BSIDES was quite an pleasant change from the over crowded hallways of Black Hat and DEFCON.
I will update more as the day progresses.

Security Humor. Face it, Security is boring without some element of suprise or discovery, usually after hours or days of frustration trying to break, um er solve an issue.
Even Alexander Grahm Bell's assistant saw the humor when after months trying to send a voice across wires, Bell spilled acid and screamed "Watson, come here, I need you!" And to think the telephone was invented due to an accident! Whoops, acid spill, eureka it works!
Isn't the Security or Hacking world like that?
Things are found or discovered in the least expected places?
In high school, I had Study Hall but skipped out to pick the lock into the Auditorium (of which I was part of the Stage Crew) to go the Grand Piano n pick that lock on the keyboard cover to play the piano (the acoustics were awesome!). Little did I realize that the Principal's office was across the hall and he was a big fan of Classical but moreso piano music! He wrote a pass for me to play everyday! Study hall moved into the Auditorium! Look at the humor in that! Holy crap! I don't play the piano anymore!
But security humor is out there! Watch for it, be aware of it. It's out there, lurking. Waiting to getcha!
Update, I will now begin posting articles to http://SecurityHumor.us
DEFCON 24 August 4-7 2016

Well, it is that time of the year again. Blackhat and DEFCON 2016. As in the past, my main focus will be on DEFCON instead of Black Hat. DEFCON to me is a more rewarding experience, especially when I can get around into side conversations and "things" than just the regular sessions.
Don't get me wrong. Black Hat is an experience all in itself and you shoudl go at least once to this. I went a few years in a row and found that DEFCON was a more rewarding experience in my book. While when i went to BH, it was a Caesars Palace and I have yet to experience it at Mandalay Bay. Maybe next year. But as always i will be out and about within DEFCON. If you see me, stop me and say HI. I wear the only unique hat within DEFCON usually with the small DEFCON pin in it. I have received many compliments on it and enjoy wearing it. So if you see an old style Bowler, stop and say HI.
This year will be no exception. While I will be lurking, I'll also be attending some sessions that I normally do not do each year. Either way, it will be a great time had by all.
Cheers and hope to see man of you there at both Paris and Ballys this year.
