It seems that there is a new scam hitting the internet for anyone utilizing VENMO for money transfers.  The following steps occur if you are unaware of them.

 

Please take the time to make yourself aware of this scam when something strange happens with your VENMO account.

 

There seems to be a new VENMO attack/hack/scam and it goes like this:

More spear phishing on the Internet.  Users are receiving an email that looks like is comes from Microsoft Outlook and pretends to show 

Ransom Ware on the rise

Vince Neil and Motley Crue have been in the news again recently.  Since they were a very popular band with an enormous following, it makes sense that malicious people are using this name for Ransomware attacks.  But this time with a misspelled name?

An app that comes directly from and is controlled from within China has raised a great deal of red flags (sorry for the pun) in the Security Industry recently.

TikTok constantly streams short video clips to the users. This is bad people.  There were studies done years ago about short attention spans based upon information overload, subliminal messages (that are only a few seconds long or shorter) and various other unconscious brain overloading media.  If you or your children have TikTok loaded on their devices, remove it! It's potentially dangerous to minds.

With the increased volume of online shopping, it's important that consumers understand the potential security risks and know how to protect

themselves and their information.

Tips to Help You Stay Secure

  1. Make sure your computer has appropriate security controls (firewalls, anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and the latest security updates).
  2. Limit your online shopping to merchants you trust.
  3. Beware of pop-up windows and sudden emails.
  4. Pay by credit or charge card.
  5. Keep a paper trail.
  6. Don't email your financial information.
  7. Look for the "lock" icon on the browser's status bar and be sure "https" appears in the website's address bar before making an online
  8. purchase.
  9. Use strong passwords. Never use the same passwords for online shopping websites that you use for logging on to your home or work
  10. computer. Do not share your login information with anyone, ever.
  11. Rotate passwords for shopping sites once every 3 months
  12. Rotate passwords for Banks or other Financial Institutions periodically as well.

 

These are just the basics in staying safe and secure while shopping on-line.
